Valentine's Day at a Shelter

Happy Valentine's Day! I don't like Valentine's DAY and I really see no reason to get worked up about it or upset about not being able to celebrate it. Then again I am also a single 20 year old girl who seems to have no obligations to celebrate it. The only thing I had to do this Valentine's day was go to work, play with some children and do some paper work. One can't complain when she has no man to cry over... then again it is slightly upsetting being in a shelter full of women wronged by men and have a whole night of it. Of course without asking God gave me something very enjoyable. This Valentine's Day could have been ten times worse, but honestly it was a great night. We were down to three children and all of them went to bed early. Also our women were very okay with spending this Valentine's alone. Actually we had a party to just celebrate, celebrating. One of our residents took out some of her food and drinks and shared with the rest of the residents while the other residents seemed to bond together and avoided having conflicts for a while night. (Now that is a blessing in itself :-) )

So for tonight on a day most single women and men dread a shelter fool of women waited until all the children were in bed, brought food into the dinning room and enjoyed each others company and celebrated life and the joy of celebrating. It wasn't a lot of food, but if nothing else it was a beautiful night full of laughing dancing and eating. With a few smoke breaks in between of course. Then as a group we cleaned up the room and rushed into the living room to watch Greek, because sometimes it is nice to walk away from reality and enjoy someone else's life and drama.
I hope everyone could enjoy the goodness of Valentine's Day without going broke or realizing that Valentine's Day is not just for lovers, but for the greatness of life and the joy of love and what love really is.
