A quick debriefing

It seems that after a rush of snow and people leaving the volunteer house things seem to come together. I had a very slow and relaxing weekend. Then again it is only Saturday night and who knows what will happen before Monday.

Commitment VS Variety and one's potential

This week has been quite an adventure. With a house still full of boys and actually having them all go to school. Which wouldn't seem like an adventure, but as time ticks closure to May the dead lines for future placements are drawing near. Which has been getting me thinking... What is my next step?

"Life without you is like having a genus without a phyla"

I may work in a shelter and do great things, but I am secretly a nerd on the inside... or just get science jokes. I went to see Yogi Bear and the quote of the movie was, " life without you is like having a genus without a phyla". I realized how nerdy I was once I laughed and got it.  Unless you have seen Yogi Bear you might now get why it is worse, but the guy and the girl in the movie are huge plant nerds and love the forest.

Breakfast with the boys

Today was a little crazy and hugely emotional, but in the end I am able to enjoy the good parts of the day. I started my day walking in the rain which turned into snow as I was walking. I was excited that hopefully school was not canceled, but of course the mention of snow made everyone lock up school and take another day off. It seems like Kentucky sees it as a sin to have a whole week of school until March. Then again by not having school and getting to work early did bring forth a few good things. Around 8:00 the boys started to make breakfast for the whole place. It was adorable seeing them all work together making breakfast for their families plus the workers. It was so cute that I made everyone who was in the office go to the kitchen and watch them cook. It took a two whole hours to make breakfast, eat it and clean up, but it was worth spending my morning in the kitchen.

Boys vs Girls and The Dragon Tattoo

I have been back at work for a bit and things have changed dramatically. We are a house of boys and so football and rough housing is the main events in my day. I have been trying really hard not to play rough, so instead of jumping in and tackling the guys in football I stay on the sidelines and watch and might throw the ball once or twice. I am enjoying the boys, because it is something I am use to. Growing up with all boys I have no problem with playing sports or not doing girlish things. I kind of love having all boys. It is weird to see a little boy cry over something silly, but boys seem to be easier to distract than a girl would be. I know right now every feminist who is all boys and girls are equal is all up on her heels screaming that girls and boys are the same and I should see no difference in the way work is. Obviously these feminist never grew up in a house of men or struggled being happy in an all girl atmosphere in high school and college.
