Short and to the point

I was on retreat this weekend learing all about my vocation and what not. It must be the in thing in praying to have these longs drawn out prayers about thanking God for every little thing. One person may lead the prayer and bow their head to bless the food and before you know it they are also blessing, the people in and not in the house, those we work for, the plants that we planted, the farms who gave us a food, the animals we killed, and well God's amazing power and mercy and so on. By the time we are done praying the food is cold and my stomach is growling. It is a good to thank God and admire all his goodness, but I love those fast and to the point prayers.
Whichs brings me back to retreat. It was a good reatreat learned a lot. I would have done things differently, but it secured me in my decision to go to Covenant House. Anyways it was the last day and the food was behind and we needed to be done by 12:00 and we were a hald an hour late and it was fianlly time to have breakfast and the leader asked if someone would say grace. Since this retreat was about being called, I felt called to pray. Normally I would let those who were more deep prayers give their long thankful blessing, but we were running late and I felt that we need to have as much time as possible eatting before we closed up the retreat. I offered to lead grace and I said, "God thank you for the food. Amen". Everyone was a little shocked some laughed and I smiled, but honestly everyone was done with their food and had a little time to relax before we had our last session and we left on time. So for future thoughts sometimes it is okay to just be to the point when praying.
