Today is Monday and things seem to be going slow as always. I'm working the night shift today so I have all day to make phone calls, do laundry, and relax. I did the same thing yesterday too. I have spent most of the past two days in bed watching tv on hulu or in a big chair watching tv and movies. But once I went to work my laziness went away and I got right back into working. Today I went into work early so I would be able to take off an hour for dinner. When I arrived a class started and I had child care. It was fun working with the kids. The male volunteer from next door dropped by and helped out during child care. This was awesome, because it allowed us other volunteers give more one on one attention to other children. I actually played catch with one of our boys. Since there are no tennis balls, or any type sport toys we used a ball of play dough in the play room. This is something I would never do in my own house or even at a place I would be babysitting at, but I felt sometimes you need to break common understandable rules to get a sense of a normal setting.
Since it is either Earth Science week or month we decided to make pet rocks with the children. We went on a very fast rock hunt, that lasted about 10 minutes. We then went back inside and painted out rocks. This was fun, but I soon realized why teachers hate painting in their classrooms. Children MAKE MESSES and Paint gets on EVERYTHING, including me. I try to look semi-formal at work, equally a NICE pair of jean (no holes, stains, patches, and not too tight) and a NICE shirt (t-shirt, no straps, no mid-drift, and no sign of what type of bra I was wearing). So I really didn't want to ruin my volunteer clothes. I wish you could see how pathetic and girlie I was being trying to hard not to get paint on me at all. I failed multiple times and had to wash my pants with water a couple of times. My shoes still show signs of being painted through puddles on the floor. Lucky for me I took a shower and now my skin of free all the purples, blues, and pinks that attacked me from all sides.
Despite my lovely lazy Sunday and Monday morning today was very productive and I look forward to an early morning starting at 9:00 am.
