I worked my very first, first shift today and it was something else. I don't know what was worse, the fact that I left the office for about a minute and I came to a lady young girl waiting to be checked in and I freak out and ran out the door looking for someone to check her in, or the fact that I had nothing to do for half of my work day. I ended up cleaning up the play room and being all teacher like. It was kind of cute, but I wish I knew what was going on and who was still living at the place I worked at.

Another Sunday of being lazy
Its Sunday and nothing too exciting has happened. I went to mass of course and I saw Paul afterwords. We went to McDonald's for breakfast, watched some ALF and then I dragged him along on a house outing. I wish I took pictures of the place, but on the random lake thing in Mount Vernon there is a bate shop that seconds as a restaurant. You may think it is gross, but the food was amazing and I kind of love it. There were seven of us and almost everyone got some fried catfish. For today I feel that might be the most exciting thing going on all day. So If I wanted to be more productive I could finish up some letters and send them out tomorrow. Lucky for me I start work early in the morning at 8:00 in the morning. :-) yay! early mornings :-)

Paul is a constant in Kentucky
Since I'm only a town over I get to see my big brother Paul a lot more than I thought I would. He came and picked me up and brought me shopping with him. I bought a duffel bag for later use, because a suitcase is not good for the mountain life, now all I need is a sleeping bag and more stamps. Well they aren't hugely important, but nice to have more than anything else. Maybe I'll get lucky and find a cheap sleeping bag somewhere. The stamps will require a trip to a post office. Well tomorrow or today for my time I will heading off to Kolhs with Paul to help him find shoes and for me to find some pants to replace the ones I ripped while hiking and playing Frizbee this past orientation. If I am lucky I will get to visit the other volunteer house that is down south for a bbq and free food. If not I'll enjoy my other housemates and having another relaxing day of no real needs to fill. Yup like I said before Kentucky is totally okay with not rushing and I kind of love this type of life style.

Orientation Sunday - Thursday
I took my road trip for 2 and half hours and I learned that Kentucky makes everyone car sick and gravel roads that go up mountains are nothing like the gravel roads on a farm. I never realized how much I had or how our poor is nothing like East Kentucky until I realized that no one really cleans up the roads like we do in MO. Buses and old cars on the side of the road, gravel roads all over the mountains. This is a coal driven area and these people love the nature, but at the same time they need money. So they give up their mountains to help feed their families. But this is about Orientation not the Kentucky community, but one of the main things we all talked about was Kentucky and how those in the Appalachian were first the rebels of the area, the murders, religiously prosecuted, thieves, and so on. So pretty much the first people living in the mountains were the outcasts. The the coal came and the miners came. Being a coal miner was not the best job, but it paid well (still does) and provided homes, food, and life to the mountains. One thing I learned about East Kentucky is each place is different, there are very poor, very rich in the same area, and middle class all over the place.
Lessons of Kentucky
October is drawing near and I have some lessons about Kentucky (or possibility CAP) to share... don't get offended, and it might only be my thinking involved
